Last week, our office did the Barbican architecture tour — walking through its raised highwalks, brutalist towers, and interconnected public spaces reminded us of Chamberlin, Powell and Bon’s vision of a “city within a city.” The tour sparked conversations about how contemporary design can learn from the Barbican’s ambition, coherence, and complexity — discussions that naturally carried on over a pint at a nearby pub.
